Glycerine, also known as glycerol, is a colourless and odourless liquid with a purity of at least 99.5% that meets strict quality standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

Glycerine is mainly derived from natural fats and oils as a by-product of biodiesel or oleochemical processes. To achieve pharmaceutical-grade quality, it undergoes advanced refining steps such as distillation and polishing. It serves as a key ingredient in medicinal syrups and formulations, a moisturising agent in skincare products and a functional ingredient in foods for sweetness and texture.

Driven by the increasing global demand for USP-grade glycerine, JJ-Lurgi Malaysia has secured its first project in Colombia, a 160 TPD glycerine refining plant. This marks a significant milestone in the business unit’s global expansion and reflects strong confidence in JJ-Lurgi’s proven glycerine refining technology to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that meet USP standards.

The project is further supported by its regional representative, JJ-Lurgi Brazil, based in Campinas, São Paulo, which plays a vital role in providing local support, market insight and closer engagement with customers across Latin America. This milestone reinforces JJ-Lurgi’s position as a trusted global technology provider in glycerine refining and paves the way for continued growth and a stronger market presence in the region.
