Fatty Alcohol Plant Built Together

JJ-Lurgi successfully began commissioning a 400-tonsper-day fatty alcohol plant supplied to Apical Group in Dumai, Indonesia last year. The facility converts fatty acids derived from vegetable oils into fatty alcohols—key components in the production of surfactants used in everyday consumer products.

The new plant incorporates JJ-Lurgi’s state-of-the-art LP3® technology, which enables operation at approximately half the conventional processing pressure. This innovation delivers significant reductions in both capital investment and operating costs, marking an important technological and commercial milestone for the company.

At the heart of the commissioning activities was JJ-Lurgi’s dedicated team of engineers, who oversaw installation and start-up. The process involved long and complex procedures, extensive checks, and round-the-clock shift work to supervise operations and troubleshoot challenges—ensuring the plant was started up smoothly and safely.

After months of effort and close collaboration with Apical’s on-site personnel, the project was successfully handed over to the local operations team. The strong partnership developed during commissioning ensured that the tireless efforts of JJ-Lurgi’s engineers did not go unnoticed.

In recognition of the achievement, Apical hosted an appreciation gathering to celebrate the excellent working relationship built throughout the project.
