Strengthening Sustainability Collaboration
GMA and long-standing partner KAEFER Saudi Arabia have collaborated to implement practical and responsible used garnet management solutions across industrial projects in Saudi Arabia. The partnership reflects a shared focus on reducing landfill reliance while improving cost efficiency through recycling and reprocessing.
Across recent projects, approximately 7,750 tonnes of used garnet have been diverted from landfill, delivering estimated savings of SAR 2.3 million (EUR 0.53 million) through reduced disposal requirements.
KAEFER Saudi Arabia’s efforts have been recognised through GMA’s Used Garnet Return Rewards Programme, acknowledging the return of spent garnet for recovery in partnership with Garnet Arabia Company (GAC).
“The award reflects KAEFER’s commitment to responsible waste management and the practical application of circular economy principles,” said GMA General Manager People and Sustainability Cameron Sargeant. “We value the progress we continue to make together in managing used garnet responsibly.”
The collaboration spans more than a decade and includes ongoing engagement between regional and international teams. Used garnet is returned to GAC’s local facilities, where up to 80 per cent can be recovered and repurposed for secondary applications, extending material life and reducing demand for virgin resources.
“Long-term partnerships like this demonstrate how consistent, locally grounded solutions can improve the way materials are managed over time,” said Soni John, General Manager, GMA Middle East.
