At Jebsen & Jessen Ingredients’ Regional Innovation Centre in Bangkok, formulation work is underway on a series of new personal care concepts. The prototypes are built around Shell Silk Alkane, now entering the Thai market through a partnership between Jebsen & Jessen Ingredients Thailand and Shell.

The appointment makes Jebsen & Jessen Ingredients the first official distributor in the country for Shell Silk Alkane, marking the energy major’s expansion into Thailand’s personal care sector. Developed using Shell’s proprietary Gas-to-Liquids technology, the ingredient brings pharmaceutical-grade purity and formulation flexibility to a market shaped by risingexpectations around safety, performance and sustainability.

Shell Silk Alkane is colourless, odourless and free from silicone, mineral oil and heavy metals. In skincare, it offers long-lasting hydration with a light, non-greasy feel. In hair care, it helps manage frizz and static while enhancing sensory appeal. It meets international regulatory standards and is biodegradable under OECD guidelines, aligning with clean beauty positioning increasingly favoured by Thai consumers.

To support local manufacturers, Jebsen & Jessen Ingredients’ technical team has translated the material into six prototype formulations, ranging from cleansing balms to bi-phase sprays. The aim is practical rather than promotional: to shorten development cycles and help brands respond more quickly to market trends.

Thailand’s beauty and skincare market is projected to grow steadily over the coming decade. For suppliers and formulators alike, the partnership reflects a broader shift, where global technology meets local expertise to shape the next generation of personal care products.
